Sberbank chief says cryptocurrencies no means of savings

MOSCOW, Jan 17 (PRIME) -- Cryptocurrencies are no means of savings, but the future belongs to them, this is why they should not be forbidden, German Gref, head of the Russia’s biggest bank Sberbank, said on Wednesday at a forum.

“A normal temperature should be maintained about the blockchain technologies and cryptocurrencies. People should be explained that these are not the means of saving. It’s a very dangerous story. One should not go there if they want to multiply their capital, because it’s yet a kind of a lottery or a casino,” Gref said.

“No bans should be imposed, because a cryptocurrency precedes formation of a new gigantic technology, and we’re unable to realize it…It’s normal, and one should not think that something extraordinary is happening now. Speed has changed, it’s true. We should be tolerant, we should be patient.”
